At Smile9, we are proud to offer dentures to our patients looking for a solution to their missing teeth.

Dentures help restore lost confidence and improve the more practical aspects of your daily life such as talking and eating.

If you’ve been struggling with the effects of missing teeth and you’d like to smile with confidence again, dentures could be the solution for you.

What are Dentures?

If you have missing teeth, your confidence can be greatly affected. You may also struggle with eating and clear speech.

Dentures are a great solution and are used to replace missing teeth in the mouth (whether full or partial replacements). They are made from either acrylic (plastic) or metal and are custom-made to fit your mouth and look as close to your natural teeth as possible.

Full vs Partial Dentures: What’s the Difference?

Whether you have full or partial dentures will depend on whether you are missing all your teeth or just a few. Let’s take a look at the difference between full and partial dentures. A dentist will be able to advise you on the best solution for your needs.

Full Dentures

A full denture will replace all of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. It is a fully removable plate that sits over the gums and holds a set of uniquely crafted acrylic teeth that are made to look as natural as possible. These teeth replace your original teeth and are crafted to suit your face shape and enhance your natural smile.

In addition, full dentures have the added benefit of supporting your cheeks and lips to maintain a more structured and lifted face shape. This stops the drooping of the facial muscles which can cause you to look older prematurely.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture will only replace a few missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Attaching to the teeth sitting on either side of the gap, partial dentures fill gaps in your teeth and help restore your smile.

Partial dentures are commonly used by people who have lost teeth in accidents or who have had teeth removed. They fill gaps in the mouth, restoring lost confidence and supporting the normal functioning of the mouth for eating and talking.

How are Dentures Fitted?

At Smile9, we design dentures just for you. Every person has a unique face shape and in order to bring out the best in your smile, it’s important we craft dentures that fit your mouth and enhance your natural beauty. Here is how we fit your dentures:

Impressions
To ensure your dentures look good and feel comfortable, we take an impression and precise measurements of your mouth to ensure a snug fit. A Smile9 dental technician will then build your dentures to fit your mouth perfectly and look as natural as possible.

Tooth Removal
Once your dentures are ready, it’s time to fit them. It may be that you need more teeth removed to allow for a full set of dentures to sit comfortably within your mouth. You may also need old, decayed, or loose teeth removed prior to your dentures being fitted.

Healing Period
Usually, the dentures will be fitted as soon as your teeth have been removed. This prevents you from being without teeth for any period of time. However, on occasion we may recommend that your gums are given time to heal prior to fitting your dentures. This avoids fitting your dentures too soon only to re-fit them again later on.

Professional Guidance
At Smile9, we like to ensure your dentures fit comfortably and look good. We will fit the dentures for you and have you take them in and out of your mouth yourself to get a feel for what they’re like.

Fitting Partial Dentures
partial dentures are fitted by clipping onto your natural teeth using metal clasps. These ensure your dentures stay put in your mouth. However, they are easy to unclip and remove as needed. We will show you how to do this during your fitting appointment.

Dentures FAQs

What precautions should I take whilst using dentures?

If you are having dentures fitted for the first time, it is important that you tread carefully in the early days as you get used to wearing dentures. Eating, for example, can take a bit of practice. We suggest starting with soft foods before transitioning to more textured foods or those that you’d typically include in your normal diet.
It is also advisable to remove your dentures at night. This gives your gums a rest while also allowing you to maintain good oral hygiene.

How can I maintain the condition of my dentures?

It’s important to take good care of your dentures. You can do this by cleaning them regularly after eating and before you go to bed. You should clean your dentures using a soft bristled brush and then soak them in a denture cleaner to keep them hygienic. To stop dentures from distorting when not in use (such as overnight), it is advisable to store them in a glass of water.

How long do dentures last?

Dentures that are taken care of properly last from 5 to 7 years. You should attend your regular dental check-ups to ensure your dentures remain comfortable and in good condition.
