What are Crowns?
Crowns, also known as ‘caps’, are a metal, porcelain, or ceramic covering that fits over the top of the natural tooth to help strengthen and support it.
Crowns are made to look like your natural teeth and are a great way to enhance the look and function of your natural teeth.
How are Crowns Fitted?
To have crowns fitted at Smile9, you will attend two separate appointments. The first appointment will be to prepare your natural teeth. This preparation is carried out under a local anaesthetic and involves sculpting your teeth so the crown can be fitted comfortably over the top.
Next, your dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth and mouth using our iTero machine. The impressions will be used to create custom-made crowns that fit comfortably.
When you attend your second appointment, your crowns will be fitted. This will be done using a permanent adhesive to ensure they stay in place for the long term. Once fitted, you will be able to eat, drink, and maintain your oral hygiene as normal.
What are Veneers?
Veneers are often compared to fake fingernails because they are wafer-thin shells custom-made to fit over the front surface of your teeth.
Veneers are permanently fitted and are typically used to correct minor imperfections and irregularities in the natural shape and aesthetic of your teeth.
How are Veneers Fitted?
To have veneers fitted, you will need to attend two separate appointments.
The first appointment will be to prepare your natural teeth for the veneers. However, depending on your individual case, this preparation stage may not be necessary.
During your first appointment, you will also have impressions taken of your teeth and mouth. This is so that custom-made veneers can be made to fit perfectly over your natural teeth.
When you return for your second appointment, your dentist will fit your veneers for you. This should be relatively quick and comfortable. Your dentist will also provide you with oral hygiene tips to keep your veneers in good condition. When taken care of properly, your veneers should last the rest of your life.
